i'm not trying to reinvent
what you call music
i just want to write my songs
& maybe if i'm lucky you will like it too
maybe not as much as i do
but that's ok, it's fine by me
if you feel you have to be
the one who calls it in the air

i'm typing from the glow of my screen
pouring out my heart
& building up what you see as a chance to seem
as important as the ones that you would
die to be, but you just can't seem to be
as cool as that, so tip your hat
so for all the world to see
in your punk rock magazine
which itself seems played to me
can you answer just one question?
