Herbstschmerz - The Puppeteer Songtext
THE PUPPETEER
1.
A carpenter and two companions
So a fairytale is told
His friends were made of wood and velvet
He himself was frail, old and grey
From town to town, through woods, o’er meadows
He fought to carry on
To find a place with many a children
For whom he can play - when they say
Refrain
Wanderer, wanderer, show me your puppets.
Wanderer, wanderer, play them for me.
2.
So, he went on, just traveling around
With the years passing by
His clothes on his back were his only possessions
On his never-ending way he will play.
His fee was the laughter of children’s faces
And wide opened eyes
When he comes to town to liven up his puppets
For the people astray – when they say
Refrain
Wanderer, wanderer, show me your puppets.
Wanderer, wanderer, play them for me.
3.
One day, when he went away
One of the children didn’t come home
And the people in the village said:
Blame you! Shame on you!
Oh, bring back the child within one day
Otherwise – never come back.
4.
Deeply touched he went away
Not knowing where to begin
He had to find the little child
To bring it back to it’s family
But when the sun began to set –
Still looking for the missing child –
The wanderer saw a bony tree
Form where he heared a tiny voice
Refrain
Wanderer, wanderer, show me your puppets.
Wanderer, wanderer, play them for me.
Wanderer, wanderer, show me your puppets.
Wanderer, wanderer, take care of me.
